Sheldon Jacobson

I am a graduate of Fernley High School, class of 2026. I participated in track and field for two years and varsity basketball for four years. I started AAU basketball as a second grader, traveling from Reno, NV, to Oakland, CA, to Orlando, FL, and many places in between. During that time, I played against incredibly talented competition and made many great friends from Northern NV. While I received many awards throughout high school, the biggest disappointment was not bringing home a State Title. We made the state tournament all four years and finished as state runner-ups the past two years.

I have volunteered with different groups since I was very young. With my mom, through her work at NV Energy, we cleaned adopted parks, picking up trash, weeding, etc. Through the schools, I helped with Special Olympics, cleaned the Veterans Cemetery, painted and weeded the FHS hill, and did other leadership activities such as Veterans Day ceremonies, school assemblies, Christmas events, and more. With my dad, as a volunteer with NDOW, I helped set up and take down for Hunters Ed, including correcting workbooks, helping small groups, and helping their students through the various activities.

I want to recognize my teachers, coaches, and teammates through the years as making a difference in my life. Finally, a special thanks to the Chamber for this generous scholarship and to Oregon Tech and head coach Parnell for this great opportunity to continue on with my basketball and academic future.
